The first year of a child’s life brings with it remarkable — and often awe-inspiring — changes and development. From the moment they’re born, babies are immersed in multi-sensory experiences that inspire them to observe, explore, and respond to the world around them. Here are three amazing transformations you’ll watch in Baby’s first year.
Vision developments

Born this way. At birth, a baby’s vision is limited to about 8″–10″, which happens to be the general distance between parent and child. While colour recognition isn’t yet fully developed, babies are fascinated by contrasting patterns and objects, which is why Montessori’s Munari mobiles are so captivating. (Learn more about how to introduce mobiles to a newborn.)
Milestone: Coordination. For the first two months, infants’ eyes may cross or wander, a normal result of their developing eye muscles. By around three months of age, however, their eyes are typically strong enough to track movements, compelling
Strolling around town, we can observe fathers and mothers alike carrying their babies and toddlers close to their body and doing so with joy and without putting too much effort into it - in most cases, either with baby slings or baby carriers. Nowadays, there are even carriers specifically designed for newborns, such as our latest addition, the Embrace. The combination of a soft and supple sling fabric with the practical features of a baby carrier allows babies to explore the world in an ergonomic, safe and completely sheltered environment. Considering the progress made and the multitude of possibilities in the field of carriers, one might ask themselves how our parents managed to "survive" in a world without baby carriers! Even more so if they lived in big cities, on the third floor of an old apartment building or if they were intent on actively moving around town with their kid...
Carriers were, therefore, considered to be somewhat rare twenty years ago and were mostly considered to
First time parents are spending more than three billion pounds on baby gear every year, with more than half ending up in debt!
A nationwide study released in time for British Savings Week (16th - 22nd September), has found that UK parents spend an average of £10,000 on baby prep/first year of life costs, adding up to more than THREE BILLION POUNDS spent on first babies alone EACH YEAR.
Shockingly, a whopping 90 percent of parents admitted they’d overspent on baby goods, with an average £5,567 wasted in total. That’s £1.7billion wasted each year by British parents on items that were either not used at all, or not enough to warrant the amount spent!
And with some parents admitting to spending as much as a brand-new Ford Focus* it’s no surprise that more than half (56 percent) of new mums and dads go into debt due to unforeseen or unplanned costs associated with their first baby.
The research, commissioned by Ergobaby UK, found that three quarters (73 percent) of British mums and dads were
We wouldn't be Ergobaby if we weren't constantly tinkering and developing new innovative and super cool products on a regular basis. And now, yes now, it's finally time again for us to announce a brand-new……... Ergobaby!
A new Ergobaby carrier is coming and her name is: Embrace. And this is exactly how your newly born protégé should feel with this new carrier: embraced by his loved ones and by Ergobaby. The Embrace will occupy a special position in our range, because it is ideal for those of you who want to carry their little protégé from the beginning. The Embrace is made of particularly soft, slightly elastic and supple jersey material (even certified according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100), which gently envelops the newborn (3.2-11.3 kg). It therefore conveys the comfortable and intimate carrying feeling that many know and like about our Aura baby wrap - but it is quick and easy to put on like a baby carrier. A perfect hybrid of our very popular carriers.
Only the best
Let yourself be embraced.
Do you feel fuelled by coffee at times?
Our love of coffee and it’s ability to help busy mums cope with the demands of their little ones (and the sleep deprivation that can come in the first years of parenting) is well known!
But too much caffeine can cause anxiety, irritability and insomnia. This can leave you less capable of managing stress, and we all know that motherhood can be a little stressful at times.
Also if you are breastfeeding, the NHS advise that caffeine can be transferred to breastmilk causing irritability and poor sleeping pattern in infants. A recommended daily limit is 200mg-300mg of caffeine which is around the equivalent of two instant coffees.
As a guideline, here's how much caffeine is in some of your favourite drinks and snacks:

With these two well combinable colours you can make the hot summer season even more colourful - and cool! Because the deliberate use of the soft yet robust mesh material ensures good air circulation in the carrier. And we can’t forget, the small built-in "sun sail", which not only protects against sun and wind, but also offers privacy when breastfeeding for little one.
Oh yes, not only our well ventilated carriers get a new look. The classic Omni 360 also has a new look: "Charcoal". Dark grey on the outside and black on the inside,
Nothing is more important than your new little baby. You’ll want to spend every waking moment snuggling them and ensuring they’re content and safe.
Baby Carriers allow you to keep your baby close while still being able to do things around the house, go on a walk—go about having a normal-as-possible day. For some of our Ergobaby carriers you will need to use an infant insert from birth, you can read more below about using the Easy Snug Infant Insert with your carrier.
How to Use the Easy Snug Infant Insert
Our Easy Snug Infant Insert can be used two different ways:
- You can use the whole insert to totally support a newborn baby inside our Original carrier or our All Position 360 carrier. (Please note: you do not need a newborn insert for our Adapt and Omni 360 Carriers).
- You can use just the pillow part of the insert as a cushioned booster for babies with stronger necks and better head control.
Whether using the whole insert or just the pillow, make sure your baby is correctly sitting
Looking for a compact stroller that really goes from birth and fits into your hallway, so you can actually walk to the front door and back without tripping over?
The Ergobaby Metro can certainly help!
The Metro Newborn Kit provides the same style and comfort of a pram, but on a compact stroller - and can even fold when attached to the stroller. Just see how easy it is below! Unlike most strollers where you have to take the carrycot off before folding!
Use the Metro Newborn Kit from birth and then switch to the stroller seat when baby starts to push up (approx 5-6 months). The newborn kit provides a comfortable, supportive lie-flat position with baby. It is super compact and lightweight: folded dimensions 67 cm x 46 cm x 33 cm (with newborn kit and sunshade attached).
Definitely try it for yourself to see just how super easy it really is, and if your travelling with little one, don’t forget your Metro carry bag.
