What makes the fabric anti-microbial?
The fabric is treated with a Silver Ion treatment. Silver has been a tried-and-tested anti-microbial used since ancient times in healthcare, food preservation and water treatment, as well as other applications where effective, long-term bacterial protection is required. Silver contains inherent anti-microbial properties. It is a leading anti-microbial due to its safety for human contact, long-term efficacy and prevention of growth for a broad range of microorganisms.

What areas of the carrier are made with anti-microbial fabric?
On the Omni 360 Cotton Carrier, the soft fabric on the inside of the carrier, the thigh supports and the head & neck support is made with the anti-microbial fabric. On the Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh Carrier, the head & neck support is made with the anti-microbial fabric. Look for the grey fabric with light grey diamond on the carrier to easily spot where the anti-microbial fabric is on the carrier(s).

Is it safe for your baby to chew?
Materials treated with our anti-microbial technology are non-toxic, non-leaching, non-sensitising, and non-irritating to skin. The technology has been assessed as harmless to human health and is approved by the International Oeko-Tex® Association, meeting the requirements required to attain a Class I rating, the category for use with infants. The technology releases silver ions only when they are needed and will not impact the microflora (“good bacteria”) when in contact with skin.

Does this protect my baby from COVID-19?
The anti-microbial silver ion technology has NOT been tested or approved by the US EPA for protection against exposure to COVID-19.

Does this wash out over time?
This technology uses silver ions rather than silver particles embedded into the material. The material is rinsed away over time, but will still reduce bacteria by over 90% after 50 wash cycles. Please follow our normal carrier care instructions and use a cold machine wash and gentle tumble dry on or air dry. As always, never use harsh detergents or detergents with optical brightening agents.

Is this safe for the environment?
As this technology uses silver ions rather than silver particles embedded into the material, it makes it degradable, non-persistent, non-accumulative, reusable, recyclable, and/or destructible, to reduce or eliminate any long-term presence in the environment.
The anti-microbial treatment also can increase the number of uses before the product may need to be laundered, which presents environmental benefits by reducing the amount of wastewater as a result of household laundering.
